Men’s Hiwassee, VA

Retreat

Basic Training

When you said “Yes” to Jesus, you enlisted in the Lord’s Army. A spiritual war rages around you each and every day. You are either a victor or a victim.

“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.” -2nd Timothy 2:1-4

How good of a soldier are you? Are you entangled in the affairs of everyday life? Are you actively advancing God’s Kingdom in your life? Your family? Your work? Or are you AWOL, MIA or a POW?

If it pains you to attempt to answer the above questions, you’re not alone… Many Men struggle in these areas, because they’ve never been properly trained or discipled. A soldier goes through weeks and weeks of training, before they see the frontlines. It should be the same in the Kingdom, but most men have never been discipled and never been trained to be a “good soldier of Christ Jesus.” They are winging it, mailing it in or in retreat… and it is killing them. Are you tired of losing battles and losing ground to the enemy of your soul? Do you want to become more than a conqueror?

Pastor Doug Levy

Pastor Doug Levy has been in fulltime ministry since 1987, where he started out as the lead singer for a Christian band and then moved into college campus ministry. He has served as a teaching pastor and worship leader at several churches in both Virginia and California.

He has been married to his wife Monica since 1993. After doing ministry together in Los Angeles for almost 25 years, they moved back to Virginia where Doug is now the Pastor at his childhood church.

Doug is also an author whose first book, “Are We Doing Church Wrong?” was published in 2021 and he is currently working on several more.

His wife Monica helps with the Women’s retreats.

James Henderson

James Henderson’s faith journey began late in life at the end of 2012, when he got baptized at 42. Seeking a fresh start, he began attending church, eager to understand faith and connect with God. He immersed himself in scripture and service, both within the church and in his professional life, initially preferring a behind-the-scenes role. Recognizing God’s larger plan,

James helped launch a men’s ministry, Men of Valor, in 2017 and took a leadership position in 2019. His passions are teaching, mentoring, and believing in the potential of others. His extensive service in the church and various ministries has been instrumental in shaping his personal and leadership development in Christ.

God has blessed James with an amazing wife whose faith has strengthened him and supported him in his walk.

Tony Owens - Worship Leader

Tony has been serving in worship ministry for over 14 years and is passionate about creating an atmosphere where people can encounter the presence of God. As a pastor and worshiper he has dedicated his life to helping others step into their true identities and callings in Christ. He carries a deep desire to see believers filled with the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, convict, and empower them in their faith journeys.

Through his ministry, Tony seeks to inspire others to worship with authenticity and boldness, creating space for transformational moments in God’s presence. Whether leading worship at Sunday services, retreats, or special gatherings, his heart is to draw people closer to the Lord and equip them to live out their faith with purpose and power.

Tony is honored to partner with this retreat to help men connect with God in a meaningful way and discover His plans for their lives.
